Direct Support Professional (DSP): Community Companion
 Califon, NJ (Hunterdon County) | $22/hr | Part-Time | Start ASAP
About the Role
 We’re looking for a patient, easygoing DSP to support a young adult client as a community companion and accountability partner. This is a non-medical, low-acuity role focused on structure, encouragement, and genuine connection. The right person will be part mentor, part friend: someone who checks in, helps build a consistent routine, and makes getting out into the community feel natural and enjoyable.
Schedule

• 2–3 hours per day, multiple days per week (total weekly hours to be confirmed; potential for significant hours)

• Flexible on timing, but consistency is key: a schedule that repeats week to week

• Some recurring times are unavailable due to client’s standing appointments (details shared during screening)

• Opportunity to add additional clients to your caseload in the future

What You’ll Do

• Check in regularly and help provide daily structure

• Encourage and accompany community outings such as movies, errands, and volunteering

• Gently redirect idle time toward productive, meaningful activities

• Offer thoughtful guidance and help the client make good choices without being pushy

• Support ongoing volunteer work at a local animal rescue shelter (and enjoy pitching in alongside him)

• Provide transportation to outings in your own vehicle as needed

• Support social reintegration at a comfortable, client-led pace

Who You Are

• Patient and low-key; comfortable giving someone time to warm up

• Interested in (or at least comfortable talking about) anime, gaming, IT/networking, or computers

• Encouraging and steady, with a natural way of influencing without pressuring

• Dog-friendly; client is getting a puppy that will grow into a large dog

• Reliable and committed to a consistent weekly schedule

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current auto insurance

• DSP experience preferred; companion, mentoring, or peer support experience welcome

• Ability to pass background check and meet standard NJ DSP requirements
