Klingberg Family Centers, Inc. is a nonprofit agency founded in 1903 that helps children and families recover from trauma, abuse, and mental health challenges. It operates a main campus in New Britain and an office in Hartford, offering vital support across Connecticut. 

The Webster House is a separate, handicapped accessible equipped home on our New Britain campus serving both boys and girls (ages 12 until 21) who struggle with behavioral health issues and co-occurring complex physical health needs. Each youth receives individualized clinical and medical treatment from a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team including a Licensed Clinical Coordinator, Primary Therapist, Psychiatrist, Pediatrician, 24-hour Registered Nursing staff, a Registered Dietician, and well trained milieu staff. 

Webster House provides a caring and supportive environment where both behavioral and medical health can be treated as part of an integrated system of care. Working collaboratively with the young person’s family or other permanency resource, our goal is the successful transition of our youth home with their families, to another permanency resource or to their next step towards independence.

FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Health Services Director and the medical direction of the agency physician(s), provides assessment, education, nursing care to clients and guidance to staff members to assure and maintain the health and physical well-being of the clientele of the agency.

Klingberg's Registered Nurses provide nursing care through daily therapeutic recreational activities on campus and in the community, coordination of primary and specialty care, daily medical assessments, individualized self-management skill building and weekly individual / family / clinical group therapy. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. 

APPLYING SKILLS:

• Identifies minor illnesses and injuries; provides treatment, medication or medical care within parameters set forth by the agency’s physicians.
• Refers serious or specialized problems to proper medical resources.
• Administers medication / medication training and supervises medical treatments and use of medications by child development staff for all assigned programs. 
• Coordinates activities of all medical related consultants.
• Maintains a treatment room for examination and treatment purposes; purchases and dispenses health care supplies. 
• Prepares and maintains permanent medical records, including identified illnesses, referrals made, prescription medications and treatment ordered.
• Maintains a variety of records concerning clients in treatment, including immunizations, physical examination, health insurance identifications and medical emergency cards. 
• Acts as liaison between treatment staff and the medical community.
• Confers with treatment team members or parents/guardians regarding medical issues of client’s treatment as necessary.
• Provides in-service education on medical concerns as appropriate.
• Consults with Food Services and consulting dietician on dietary and nutritional matters. 
• Provides health services for on-duty staff members as appropriate; maintains appropriate records; assists in preparation of claim reports as required in cases of work-related injuries. 
• Provides counseling for clients with problems of a medical or sexual nature when appropriate. 
• Monitors the confidentiality and proper control of all nursing records.
• Provides additional client related services as appropriate or assigned.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:

• Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license 
• CPR/First Aid Certification
• 2-4 years’ experience in social services setting preferred
• Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification
• Exceptional ability to ensure high-quality patient care and expedite concerns
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift (up to 30 lbs.), pull, push, carry (up to 20 lbs.), grasp, bend
• Ability to participate in physical restraints once trained
• Basic computer knowledge
• Valid driver’s license
