Registered Nurse (RN) - Director of Nursing

Position Overview

Provide strategic leadership and supervision of the nursing department, overseeing patient care delivery, staffing, compliance, and quality initiatives across units.

Partner with administrators and medical leadership to set standards, improve outcomes, and ensure regulatory adherence while supporting a safe, patient-centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead nursing operations, staffing plans, and unit performance metrics to meet organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement policies, clinical protocols, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee regulatory readiness, patient safety programs, and incident investigations.
  • Foster professional development, performance evaluations, and succession planning for nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with medical leadership and interprofessional teams to coordinate care delivery and optimize patient flow.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction, outcomes, and resource utilization; drive improvements as needed.
  • Ensure compliant documentation practices and accurate reporting for audits and accreditation.

Qualifications

Education:

BSN required; MSN or higher degree preferred.

Licensure:

Current RN license in the United States; eligible for licensure in the facility’s state.

Certifications:

  • BLS; ACLS
  • Leadership or clinical specialty certifications may be preferred

Experience or Skills:

Clinical and administrative leadership experience; strong communication, change management, and data-driven decision-making abilities.

Experience

  • Experience in nursing leadership roles with exposure to multiple units or service lines.
  • Proven track record of improving quality, safety, and patient experience metrics.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Nursing Administration or healthcare-related field.
  • Certification in nursing administration or relevant specialty.

Work Environment

Executive nursing leadership role with office and clinical responsibilities; direct oversight of on-site nursing managers and staff.

Collaborative environment across departments; travel between facilities may be required for some organizations.
