Mainstay Supportive Housing and Home Care, Inc. provides human service and housing programs across Massachusetts, including permanent supportive housing and compassionate, person-centered home care. Our programs have helped hundreds of people live productive and stable lives in their own communities every day for all of these years. Mainstay was founded in 1975 to provide services to people with mental illness, and our mandate has since expanded to cover a variety of vulnerable populations, including low-income elders; people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities; and the recently homeless.
We are seeking kind, thoughtful, caring, and dependable candidates to work part-time as a Home Health Aide (HHA). The position includes providing 1:1 care to residents in a permanent supportive housing complex to help keep their housing stabilized.
This position will be part of a growing collaboration with local Boston non-profit, focused on thier mission to end homelessnes. Services will be provided in members’ apartments. Members will have varied degrees of independence and a variety of support needs, including aging in place and physical and mental health disabilities.
Please note: This is a new and growing program, and hours will be limited initially. As the program develops and member needs increase, additional hours may become available. The number of hours and schedule will depend on program growth and member needs. Candidates who are interested in starting with limited hours and potentially taking on additional hours as the program develops are encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage in compassionate and upbeat exchanges with patience to meet people where they are and honor their current needs.
- Perform direct care guided by the member’s care plan. These responsibilities focus heavily on supporting members 1:1 with activities of daily living. These can include basic hygiene, dressing, exercising, positioning, feeding, toileting, medication reminders, ambulation, and cueing in these areas.
- Assist members with laundry and light housekeeping.
- Prepare meals for/with members.
- Provide companionship to members, doing something mindful, fun, or recreational during daily visits.
- Write daily service logs, track daily goals of the care plan, and record service delivery in the GPS system.
- Report any changes in a member’s health status to the supervisor.
- Represent Mainstay to the community and outside stakeholders with integrity.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Home Health Aide (HHA) certification preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience working with individuals with a variety of disabilities, preferably in a residential setting.
- CPR and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain them within the first 30 days of employment).
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Excellent team player and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with members, program staff, nurses, and others involved in the member’s care.
- Basic computer skills, including recording notes, using electronic time and attendance software, and receiving and sending electronic mail.
- With support and training from your supervisor, ability to learn the procedures and policies of the MassHealth Group Adult Foster Care (GAFC) Program. No prior experience with this program is expected.
- Be enthusiastic, compassionate, and upbeat with members.
- Be open to ideas, new experiences, and new ways of doing things.
- Ask for help when needed and be willing to help others.
- Keep appropriate matters confidential.
- Share ideas, opinions, and thoughts when appropriate.
- Use good judgment in decision-making. If in doubt, reach out to your supervisor.
- Understand that you and others will make mistakes and be willing to learn from them.
