Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Location: Haddonfield, NJ 08033
Pay: $30/hour
Schedule: Part-Time

We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide one-on-one support to a female client in Haddonfield, NJ. The ideal candidate will have a medical or healthcare background and prior experience administering insulin injections.

The DSP will support the client with her daily needs, personal care, safety, communication, mobility, and community participation while encouraging independence whenever possible.

Available Hours

• Wednesday: 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM

• Saturday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

• Sunday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM (Sunday hours can be flexible)

Responsibilities

Medical & Personal Care

• Administer insulin injections as required; prior experience with insulin administration is strongly preferred.

• Assist with care for a recurring fungal skin infection when it flares, which may include cleaning the affected area, applying prescribed topical ointment, and dressing the area to keep it dry. During flare-ups, care may be required 3–4 times per day.

• Follow established care and safety protocols and communicate concerns appropriately.

Mobility & Physical Support

• Provide physical support when the client is navigating stairs. Due to a pin in her left ankle and an increased risk of falling, she may require someone's arm or a railing for support when walking downstairs. At times, she may independently scoot down the stairs.

• Be physically capable of safely providing mobility assistance when needed.

• Assist with a foldable wheelchair during longer community outings. The client can independently transfer in and out of the wheelchair; the DSP will be responsible for pushing the wheelchair as needed.

Behavioral & Safety Support

• Provide attentive supervision and support related to behaviors that may include hitting or biting herself or others, ingesting non-food items, and elopement/wandering.

• Maintain a calm, patient, and safety-focused approach while following the client's established support plan.

Communication & Community Support

• Support a non-speaking client who communicates using an iPad with the Words for Life app as well as approximately 50 signs.

• Learn and use the client's preferred communication methods and support her in making choices and expressing her needs.

• Accompany and drive the client to community outings and activities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

• Have previous DSP, caregiving, nursing, medical, or related healthcare experience.

• Be comfortable and experienced with insulin injections.

• Be comfortable providing personal and skin care.

• Be physically capable of providing mobility and stair support and pushing a wheelchair.

• Be comfortable supporting an individual who may display self-injurious or aggressive behaviors, pica-related behaviors, and elopement.

• Be patient and comfortable supporting a non-speaking individual who uses AAC and signs to communicate.

• Be a non-smoker.

• Be able and willing to drive the client for community outings.

• Be dependable, compassionate, attentive, and committed to the client's safety and independence.

Compensation

$30 per hour

This position is a good fit for an experienced DSP or healthcare professional who is comfortable providing a combination of medical, behavioral, mobility, communication, and community-based support.
