JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of licensed personnel, monitors and responds to patient needs. Provides patient care activities including: feeding, monitoring of vital signs, specimen collection, and patient transportation. Utilizes and charges for equipment and sup
plies. Acquires necessary equipment for procedures and explains procedure to patients and families. Cleans equipment
, meal trays, and restores rooms after patient discharge. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of licensed personnel, assures that each patient receives quality care.
- Performs personal care according to requirements of the patient including bathing, perineal care, shaving, grooming hair, mouth care as conditions of patient warrants.
- Provides food and nourishment to patient and collects specimens.
- Assists in transportation of patients.
- Provides care appropriate for the neonate and pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
- Documents vital signs, intake and output and appropriate portion of admission history as directed.
- Assists in maintaining logs, charge tickets and reports.
Provides respect due to each patient, family member and co-workers.
- Avoids unnecessary exposure during care.
- Speaks politely to and considers preferences of patient.
- Includes patients in decision making.
- Introduces self and reason for being there.
- Refrains from engaging in casual conversations with co-workers in open areas in view of patients and visitors.
Participates in the patient care management.
- Reports observed data or change in condition to LVN or RN.
- Attends change of shift report and makes notes of facts important to nursing care.
- Maintains accurate and timely records according to hospital policy and procedures
Maintains Supplies and equipment.
- Cleans equipment and returns to storage area as appropriate.
- Education – High school Graduate or equivalent
- Job Related skills – Ability to read and write with effective oral and written communication
- License, Registry or Certification – Certification as Nursing Assistant in Texas
- BCLS certification
- Experience –
- Prior Work Experience -
- One year experience in a medical setting preferred
- Technical Training – Computer skills required.
- Physical and Mental Requirements -
- Position requires extended periods of walking and standing.
- Repeated bending, stooping and reaching.
- Lifting to 50 pounds.
- Transferring and lifting or supporting patients who may experience sudden weakness or inability to stand.
- The ability to comprehend and follow written or verbal instructions and directions and to instruct employees.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS
- Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potential infectious materials.
- Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
- Follows MCHD Policies and Procedures and safety guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the department management staff.
